The golden rule is "follow all manufacturer instructions," but here are some basics:
BPA-free plastic ：baby bowls and plates are always hand washable, and most are top rack dishwasher safe. Of course, don't put the plastic in the oven, although it's fine in the refrigerator, it might crack if it's put in the oven and the contents expand.
Silicone : As mentioned in the box above, hand washing baby dishes works best using fragrance-free dish soap. Many home cooks like silicone because it's safe to microwave. Because it has some elasticity, it can be stored in the refrigerator and freezer. It is also generally suitable for use in ovens.
Melamine : It is a hard plastic that is dishwasher safe. But it's definitely not microwaveable and isn't suitable for the oven. (Read the FDA's regulations on melamine and the importance of not exposing it to high temperatures.) You can use melamine in the refrigerator, but it may become brittle if you leave it in the freezer below freezing.
Stainless steel : It can be hand washed or placed in the dishwasher, but it's best not to subject it to a heat dry cycle. Do not put stainless steel or any metal in the microwave.
